The Velvet Fist was a cross-country feminist paper launched in 1970 by the Toronto Women’s Caucus (TWC). As an activist feminist group open to all women, the TWC  focussed on mobilizing and uniting women in collective struggle against their oppression. Women members of the League for Socialist Action/Ligue Socialiste Ouvrière (LSA/LSO) played a key role in founding the TWC and organizing its campaigns. Over time, TWC activism became focused on the campaign to repeal abortion laws.
