This 1979 report by the National Council of Welfare examines the reality that poverty in Canada is overwhelmingly female. Statistics show that three out of every five poor adults in Canada are women and overall, that one and a quarter million Canadian women (one woman out of every six) live in poverty. The objectives of the report are to describe poor women, examine why they are poor, and recommend ways of improving their situation.
