This discussion paper examines the medical, socio-economic, cultural, and geographic risk factors negatively affecting maternal and child health among Native populations in Manitoba. Statistics reveal significantly higher neonatal, post-neonatal, and infant mortality rates compared to the overall provincial population. The paper makes a number of recommendations and flags the confusion between the role of federal and provincial governments in provisions of health care to treaty Indians.
