This case study of the Toronto Women’s Bookstore explores the “balancing act” involved with sustaining a viable bookstore and a working environment that recognizes the value of its workers and strives to combine feminist culture and organizing principles with the culture of the bookselling industry and its limitation. It includes a review of the history and evolution of the TWB, including how it was organized, management styles, decision-making, and volunteer and community involvement.. The conclusion sets out some of the lessons learned and steps for the future evolution process.
