In 1985, Angela Davis was the keynote speaker at a Toronto event organized by the Committee for March 8th, a coalition initiated by the Congress of Canadian Women. The event also included a performance by Faith Nolan, opening remarks by Constanza Allevato of the Congress of Canadian Women, and a financial appeal by Donna Johansen of the Retail Wholesale Department Store Union. The program was intended to celebrate International Women’s Day and to mark the closing of the United Nations’ International Decade For Women, and was endorsed by a wide range of political, anti-racist, feminist, and peace groups. The pamphlet includes a Statement of Political Agreement focused on the struggles for unity, equality, and peace.
