A strike appeal for financial support for CUPE Locals 1582, 1806, and 2758 was issued by CUPE Ontario Division in October 1984. The bulletin notes that the Library Board initially proposed 107 takeaways and wants a free hand to restructure and reduce the work force. 80% of the strikers at the Metro Toronto Library are women, most low-paid and including many sole-support parents.
