The Women’s Bureau’s Policy Paper on Affirmative Action came to the 15th CLC Convention. It notes that affirmative action is an important mechanism for the labour movement to make advances in the long struggle against discrimination in the workplace. The recommendations include a call for affirmative-action legislation, affirmative-action in education and training programmes for women and girls, and bargaining strategies. Unions must also look at affirmative-action measures and education within their own structures and processes.
