The Canadian Labour Congress’s statement for March 8, 1993, highlights International Women’s Day as a time to pledge support for women facing persecution and abuse around the world. This includes working to change Canada’s discriminatory refugee and immigration policies. The labour movement must also address the many challenges faced within the movement to promoting meaningful employment equity, knocking down systematic barriers, and taking steps to end the exclusion of immigrant women from active union involvement.
