This position paper was produced for the City of Toronto’s Study on Relations Between the Homosexual Community and the Police. The paper focuses on concerns about relationships between the police and the gay and lesbian communities; between the police and other minority communities; and the right-wing political role being played by the police. Recommendations include an independent inquiry into the bath raids and the continuing police harassment, inclusion of sexual orientation in the Ontario Human Rights Code, and an independent complaints board including representation from the gay and lesbian communities, women’s groups, Black and Asian communities, and labour movement.
