Press Gang was a feminist printing and publishing collective active in Vancouver between the early 1970s and 2002. It primarily published books by Canadian women authors and artists, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and art.
The original Press Gang was set up by a small collective of men and women in 1970 but by 1974, it had become a women-only, feminist and anti-capitalist printshop. By 1989 two separate collectives had been set up, Press Gang Printers Ltd. and Press Gang Publishers Feminist Cooperative. Press Gang Printers ended operations in 1993; Press Gang Publishers continued until 2002 when it closed after thirty years as an independent feminist publisher.
