This 1980 community analysis was a project funded by the Ministry of Culture & Recreation, Experience ‘80, and the Downtown Churchworkers’ Association. It emerged out of a need for further information about social services and programmes provided by non-governmental agencies serving immigrant women in Metro Toronto. The project sought to provide an updated Directory of Services for Immigrant Women and to produce a visual analysis of community agencies operating in Toronto through charts and maps. Its specific objectives were to identify gaps and overlaps in services targeting immigrant women, get a better sense of funding sources, and make suggestions about how to sustain and improve upon existing services as well as create new ones. A total of 75 agencies were approached and 46 provided interviews. The analysis concluded that only provincial funding sources are distributed to a large number of agencies whereas federal and municipal funding sources are distributed to fewer agencies.
