Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic

This undated button is from the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic (BSCC), which opened in 1985 in Toronto. The BSCC was created following the brutal sexual assault and murder of Barbara Schlifer in 1980 as she returned home after celebrating being called to the bar. Initially the Clinic was a provider of free legal and counselling services for women who had experienced partner assault, child sexual abuse, and sexual assault, but over the years has added programs addressing a wider range of gender violence.
