Founded in 1985, the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic was created to provide free counselling and legal services to women in the Metro Toronto area who had experienced partner assault, child sexual abuse, and sexual assault. The clinic was established in memory of Barbra Schlifer, an aspiring lawyer who was sexually assaulted and murdered on April 11, 1980, the night she was called to the Bar. Today, the clinic offers legal, counselling, and interpretation services to marginalized and racialized populations of women and gender diverse people who have survived violence.
