Free South African Political Prisoners – South African Women’s Day Committee

This button was created by The South African Women’s Day Committee, formed in 1986 to recognize the role of women in the long struggle against apartheid in South Africa. The committee celebrated the 30th anniversary of the women’s march on Pretoria in 1956, where 20 000 women of all races marched together in Pretoria to protest the pass law. It was part of a growing movement calling for international condemnation and increased pressure to end the South African apartheid regime.
