The event also marked the inauguration of the temporary AIDS memorial in Cawthra Park and featured grand marshals Svend Robinson, Canada’s first openly gay MP, and Karen Andrews, a legal pioneer for same-sex benefits. Despite Toronto Mayor Art Eggleton’s refusal to give Pride an official proclamation, the event was a significant moment of LGBTQ+ pride, activism, and remembrance.
