Committee Against the Deportation of Immigrant Women – Position Paper – 1977

This 1977 position paper, prepared by the Toronto-based Committee Against the Deportation of Immigrant Women (CADIW), highlights the urgent necessity of mobilizing support within the Black community, other immigrant and ethnic communities, and amongst women’s organizations across Canada. It examines the double burden of racism and sexism, the widespread practice of deportation, and discrimination against West Indian and East Indian women by immigration officers. The paper concludes by outlining plans for the defence of West Indian mothers who have come to Canada as domestic workers and are now being accused of falsifying entry documents. Sherona J. Hall is listed as the committee’s spokesperson.
