Gender-Related Persecution in Canadian Refugee Determination

This presentation was prepared by Judith Ramirez, Co-Chairperson of the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) Working Group on Women Refugee Claimants, and delivered on June 14, 1997, for a summer course on refugee issues at the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. Ramirez explores the question of the public/private dichotomy as it affects the determination of gender-related refugee claims in Canada, speaking from her experiences as a member of the IRB.
