International Protection and Gender-Related Persecution

This presentation was prepared by Judith Ramirez, Chairperson of the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) Toronto Working Group on Women and Refugee Claimants, and delivered on June 22, 1996, for a summer course on refugee issues at the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. Ramirez speaks about the efforts of the working group and outlines the IRB Guidelines on Women Refugee Claimants Fearing Gender-Related Persecution. The speech is dedicated to the memory of Lisa Gilad, a social anthropologist, author, and refugee status decision-maker who passed away that year.
