The Manitoba Native Indian Mother and Child: Discussion Paper on a High Risk Population This 1981 discussion paper examines the medical, socio-economic, cultural, and geographic risk factors negatively affecting maternal and child health among Native populations in Manitoba. Statistics reveal significantly higher neonatal, post-neonatal, and infant mortality rates compared to the overall provincial population. The paper makes a number of recommendations and flags the confusion between the role of federal and provincial governments in provisions of health care to treaty Indians. The paper was authored by Jocelyn Bruyere as a research associate with the Community Task Force on Maternal and Child Health.
