The Bulletin – Volume 2, No. 3, December 1987: Native Research and Development in Alcohol and Drug Abuse This bulletin was distributed by the National Native Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse in December 1987. The issue focused on the unique challenges that Indigenous women face with respect to substance abuse, including around gender-based violence, family structures, and childcare. The bulletin also highlighted recently-founded initiatives and organizations aimed at supporting Indigenous women affected by substance abuse, including the 3rd Annual International Child Conference, Valley Native Friendship Centre, Northern Addiction Services, Pauktuutit, Native Trainers Development, and National Addictions Awareness Week. Pieces written by Indigenous women and community leaders emphasized the importance of women’s roles in fighting substance abuse and rebuilding communities.
