White Feminist Racism Within the March 8 Coalition: Our Responsibility

This 1986 statement, prepared by Joanne Doucette and Dawn Heiden with input from Sharon Stone, outlines and takes responsibility for the racism perpetrated by white feminists in the March 8 Coalition in charge of planning International Women’s Day in Toronto. It addresses the hypocrisy of the theme ‘Say No to Racism from Toronto and South Africa’, the defensive reactions of white feminists to women of colour in the coalition, and the necessity of accountability.
