“You Are Not One of Us” – The Roots of My Militant Feminism

This 1987 article by Laura Sabia was published in Volume 8, Number 2 of Canadian Women’s Studies/Les cahiers de la femme. It provides a first-person account of Laura Sabia’s experience as the daughter of Italian immigrants and how the stories of Italian peasant women in Figline, Vegliatura, and Calabria, passed down to her by her mother, informed her feminism in her later life. The document also includes a 1980 poem by Mary di Michele titled “How to Kill your Father” from Bread and Chocolate.
