1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing (Set of Commemorative Pins) Photo of two 24K gold commemorative pins in a red velvet box. The pins are associated with the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing which ended with 189 United Nations member states, including Canada, committing themselves to the Beijing Platform for Action to advance women’s equality. The Beijing Conference followed three previous global conferences on women held between 1975-1995. The first in Mexico City (1975) marked International Women’s Year and the beginning of the United Nations International Decade of Women. It was followed by Copenhagen (1980) and Nairobi (1985). More than 17,000 participants attended the Beijing Conference, including government delegates at the negotiations, NGO representatives, civil servants and media representatives. There are separate photos of each of the two pins showing them in more detail. The box features the symbol for the conference and the lettering ‘95 Beijing’ in gold.
