Rise Up! Feminist Digital Archive
A Digital Archive of Feminist Activism
The Congress of Canadian Women (CCW) began organizing in the early 1950s out of Toronto, with a focus on issues including peace, welfare for women and children, poverty, and discrimination. The organization was a merger between several feminist groups, such as Housewives and Consumers Association, and was connected to the Women’s International Democratic Federation, an international collective of women’s organizations across 54 countries. CCW led the first women’s conference on International Women’s Day, March 8, 1950.
