Interval House (Toronto)

Interval House was founded in 1973 by a feminist collective and is Canada’s first centre for women survivors of intimate partner violence.

Founded by a small feminist collective of women who came together at Women’s Place in Toronto, Interval House opened in the spring of 1973. It was one of the first shelters for abused women and children in Canada and a feminist response to the growing awareness and acknowledgement of gender-based violence in the home.
