Rise Up! Feminist Digital Archive
A Digital Archive of Feminist Activism
The Kitchener-Waterloo Woman’s Place was founded in 1973 by a small group of women who met at a women’s conference at Waterloo Lutheran University. Their goal was to “promote a non-competitive atmosphere in which women could meet and support each other and their personal growth, provide a base for pro-women groups and emphasize self-development of its members.” The Centre struggled with internal structure and external engagement, but nonetheless provided diverse programming to the K-W community, including auto mechanic and self-defense classes, yoga and dance sessions, film nights, seminars, public speaking engagements, and more.
