Founded in 1981, Media Watch was a national women’s organization dedicated to improving the portrayal of women and girls in the media. The organization worked to eliminate sexist and pornographic images and encouraged the creation of media representations that reflected the changing and diverse roles of women in Canadian society. Through education, communication, research, advocacy, and public engagement, Media Watch sought to challenge sex-role stereotyping and improve the image of women in the media.
