The NWT Advisory Council on the Status of Women was appointed by the Government of the Northwest Territories in 1984 with the mission of promoting political and social equality for women in the Northwest Territories. Their work included knowledge sharing, work and training opportunities, reporting on government policies, community engagement, and more. The council also published a community newsletter called Northern Women Talk. In 1990, the Government of the Northwest Territories established The Status of Women Council under the Status of Women Council Act to continue this work. The council remains active today.
