A Digital Archive of Feminist Activism
Founded in 1945, the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) represented members in locals throughout Canada and the United States. In 2004, 73 per cent of Canadian members voted in favour of forming an autonomous Canadian union called the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union (COPE). Women in the union forged solidarity with the broader women’s movement in Canada, for example by hosting International Women’s Day events.
