Saskatoon Women’s Liberation (SWL), a group of socialist feminists from various parts of the movement, published the SWL Newletter as an outreach tool from 1974 to 1981. In 1977, the group changed the name to Prairie Woman: A Newsletter of Saskatoon Women’s Liberation.
In 1974, Saskatoon had two women’s centres – one downtown and one on campus – as well as a centre for lesbians and gays, an active pro-choice group, the Herstory collective, and many active feminists. The group Saskatoon Women’s Liberation (SWL) was created to bring together socialist feminists from various parts of the movement, particularly to bring women from on- and off-campus together. The newsletter was an outreach tool for that group. SWL published its newsletter roughly from 1974-1981. In 1977, with the renewal of the group, it changed the name to Prairie Woman: A Newsletter of Saskatoon Women’s Liberation.
(note: later known as Prairie Woman: Newsletter of Saskatoon Women’s Liberation)
