The Banner Project (1990): CUPE 2424

Photo taken in 1990 of banners by Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) featuring slogans including “Tory Economics = Working Poor,” and by the Women’s Centre at St. Thomas University, featuring the slogan “Fight Sexism; Fight Racism.” Women’s groups across Canada were asked to produce a protest banner that would become part of a huge banner in Ottawa. The goal of The Banner Project was to show the strength and solidarity of women during the Third Commonwealth meeting of Ministers Responsible for Women’s Affairs in October 1990.
