Azanian Masses Against Apartheid This 1970s poster advertises a series of political events in and around Vancouver, organized by the African Progressive Study Group. The events included a speech and rally with David Sibeko—a South African political activist and leader of the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania—a film screening, and a demonstration. The poster reads: “Unite to struggle with the Azanian masses against apartheid-settler colonialism.” ‘Azania’ was adopted as a name for South Africa by some political groups, particularly within the Black Consciousness and Pan-African Congress movements. This material is reproduced here with the permission of Press Gang, a feminist printing and publishing collective active in Vancouver from the early 1970s to 2002. Posters by Press Gang are held at the Simon Fraser University Archives. Metadata Title: Azanian Masses Against Apartheid Region: British Columbia City/Town: Vancouver Artist: Press Gang
