Pat’s Moving up This poster was created in the early 1990s for the Ontario Women’s Directorate as part of a public awareness campaign promoting job opportunities for women in non-traditional occupations. It features Pat Oakes-Scattergood, an ironworker, photographed at a construction site with the stadium visible behind her. The design combines a striking portrait with bold, vertical text introducing Pat and highlighting her story of resilience and empowerment as a young Indigenous woman entering the trades. The accompanying text emphasizes women’s growing presence in skilled labor and apprenticeship programs traditionally dominated by men. Graphic design is by Joss Maclennan; photograph is by Debra Friedman. The poster is one of a number in the Rise Up archival collection by Joss Maclennan. Copyright is held by the artist and the poster is shared here with Joss Maclennan’s permission. Metadata Title: Pat’s Moving up Region: Ontario Artist: Joss Maclennan
