Rachel Mines Her Own Business

This poster was created in the early 1990s for the Ontario Women’s Directorate as part of its “Job Opportunities for Women” campaign, which promoted women’s participation in non-traditional occupations during the early 90s. It features Rachel Prudhomme, a professional mining engineer and business owner, highlighting her success in the male-dominated field of mining. The design combines a portrait of Prudhomme in a red suit and safety helmet within an industrial setting, paired with bold typographic storytelling that emphasizes empowerment and perseverance. Graphic design and illustration is by Joss Maclennan; photograph is by Debra Friedman.

The poster is one of a number in the Rise Up archival collection by Joss Maclennan. Copyright is held by the artist and the poster is shared here with Joss Maclennan’s permission.
