The Immigrant Women’s Health Centre, now IWHC Toronto, was formed in 1975. It was initially a counselling and referral service exclusively for immigrant women, helping immigrant women increase their knowledge of their rights as patients and consumers and to have a positive appreciation of their sexuality and life. It later became a sexual and reproductive health clinic with a multilingual, all-female staff providing testing, treatment, counselling, and outreach to all genders on a wide range of issues.
Description excerpted from the Immigrant Women’s Health Centre pamphlet, An Invitation to Visit.

In operation since 1975, the centre’s main objective is to promote reproductive health with emphasis on family planning and related health matters. In addition, they will help immigrant women increase their knowledge of their rights as patients and consumers, and they will teach them to have a positive appreciation of their sexuality and life.”
