Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees

The Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE) formed in 1995 after the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU) and the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU) merged. UNITE launched campaigns to fight for the rights of industrial laundry workers, retail workers, and manufacturing workers. In 2004, UNITE merged with the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union (HERE) to form UNITE HERE.
