More about International Women’s Day - March 8th Coalition
International Women’s Day (8 March) brings together women to celebrate our economic, political, and social achievements. It is also a time to highlight key issues in the ongoing struggle for women’s equality. In Toronto, the International Women’s Day / March 8th Coalition organizes the annual march and rally, which unites social justice, labour, health, and women’s rights activists behind a common theme in one of the largest IWD events held in North America.
In 1985, the IWDC pulled back from its role as initiator of the March 8 Coalition and instead called together a group of women from various areas, who had participated in the March 8 Coalition in the past to form an ad hoc Steering Committee for IWD in Toronto.
